Prometric - The Making Of A Better Exam
Thomson Prometric's advanced testing technology
now presents exams as simulated or true-to-life scenarios , engaging
the test taker each step of the way results in a truer testing experience
-- and a more precise measure of knowledge, skills and abilities.
There are three basic types of this technology:
Adaptive Testing
Computer Adaptive Testing aims to determine your level of
competency by adapting each question to your previous response.
When you answer a question correctly, a harder question
will appear. If you answer incorrectly, an easier question comes
up.
Each question's level of difficulty is based on
the answers to previous questions until a consistent level of competency
is determined. Adaptive testing technology can establish this competency
level more quickly than conventional examination techniques.
Mastery Testing
Computer Mastery Testing marks a new approach to accreditation
and admissions testing. This technique brings the flexibility more
typical of an interactive oral examination to the computer-testing
arena.
In a mastery test, the computer program will ask
you objective questions in small sections called "testlets."
The program evaluates your performance at each stage and estimates
your probability of passing the next section. Using probability,
the program can determine whether you have mastered the subject
and how the examination should proceed.
Performance-based Testing
Performance-based testing measures your ability to identify and
solve true-to-life problems.
In a performance-based exam, test questions are,
in effect, elements of problem-solving tasks. Each element -- each
question -- represents one step or part of a step along a solution
pathway. As the test taker, you are, in effect, asked to perform
at each step.
